Waterproofing the Basement

I had to work today, so all the fun stuff was done by the time I got home. From what I can see, the seams were all coated with a tar-like substance, and the walls are covered with something that looks like insulation. As you can tell, I'm all about the technical details! I'm off tomorrow, so I'll find out exactly what was done.
This will be the front porch.
Obviously the drainage tile is working.
On this one you can see the tar.

  2. Good luck with your Wayne Home build. I'm one of their unhappy customers and wish I'd never used them. I certainly won't hijack your blog with my issues, but if you'd like to know some of our specific issues and things to watch for then just reply to this post. We also built in NW Ohio, so some of the sub-contractors may be the same.

  4. I am aslo an unhappy Wayne Home customer. I wish I would have NEVER built one of their homes. I WARN EVERYONE - their motto is - you picked the land and told us to build a home there. No matter what problems your land has - high water table - natural spring - they will NOT help you or guide you to construct your foundation differently for land like that. They just build the home.....Once the home is completed and you start to have issues with the foundation, they do not stand behind any warranty. They say they are not responsible for the issues of the underground land. We built you a home on the land you told us to. I think Wayne Home should have experts there to help a new home builder who knows nothing about building a home. They should have an expert available to help their customers. Instead, they DO see the problems that the land has, but continue to keep building the home without any type of extra structural support or saying anything to the home owner that there is a problem with the land....... Wayne Home offers NO HELP to those of us that know nothing about building a home.

  9. Thanks for the great information, and my wife and I are looking at waterproofing our basement. And we're both pretty handy around hardware, so we were wondering if this is a job that we could do ourselves? Or if we would be better off having someone come and do it for us?

  10. It's been months now, and I do hope you were successful in waterproofing your basement. It's best to be keen with technicalities, especially when you're talking about the materials used in building your house. Anyway, did you move in already? I hope you'll host a house tour. :)
